Hello there! Joe and I have been managing the Guest House for just over 4 months. A friend of ours recently asked us ‘how’s the new life going?’. This got me thinking about everything that had happened in the last 4 months and how much our lives have changed. In today’s blog, I’m going to share some of the highlights with you and tell you how things have been.

As you can imagine taking on a role such as managing a Guest House is an interesting experience.  In our first month, we spent time setting up our own living spaces and learning the day to day running of the Guest House. Meeting our first guests was an exhilarating experience. It’s very rewarding welcoming a family in your home and getting to know them and making them feel comfortable. Having a happy guest check out after a relaxing holiday makes all the work worth it. We’ve also had some amazing dogs as guests who all love it here. So far, we have had a few rescue dogs and a show dog. No puppies yet…

In our second month, we started work on freshening up the Guest House ready for the start of a new season.

Our 3rd month we started exploring the nearby area and revisiting places we had been in the past. There were some key places we wanted to visit that we had heard lots about.  First on the list was revisiting the Lake District Wildlife Park, which is somewhere I used to love going to as a child. It was just as good as I remembered, especially because one of the lemurs had recently given birth to a new baby lemur.

The next place on the list was The Lakes Distillery. I had high expectations for our visit but I enjoyed it even more than I thought I would. Although that might have been something to do with the 3 tasters we had. It was very interesting learning the history of the local area. My favourite spirit was whisky and Joe’s favourite was Gin. Apparently, the salted caramel vodka is nice over ice cream which sounds like a plan for a warm night during the summer.

Joe and I have also been trying to get out and do some walks while the weather has been fair. As mentioned in the last blog Buttermere is one of my favourite places in the Lakes. We went back recently and took a picnic to have on the edge of the lake. We took my mums dogs with us and they seemed to have a great time running around in the bluebells and chasing after the geese.

At the time of writing this, our first season is in full flow. We are really enjoying getting to meet people from all other the world and discussing the amazing area we live in with them.
