We are so privileged here at the Ouse Bridge Guest House, to have one of the most beautiful locations in Europe (If not the world). Since the reopening of our property, there has been a definite increase in the number of our guests who are new to walking holidays and want to immerse themselves in all that our amazing location has to offer. With this in mind, even though you may have done your research about the importance of being well equipped for hiking and walking in the lakes district, we thought we may remind you of what is important to pack before you leave home and check-in with us for your stay.
Yes, we have had sizzling temperatures here in in the last few weeks, so of course sunscreen is an obvious one to bring, but let’s not forget the English weather is very changeable no matter if its spring, summer, autumn or winter. The lakes district outside of the summer months but not excluding, would certainly require bringing your waterproof gear.
Comfortable, waterproof and durable hiking boots are probably THE most important things to pack. Always good to give them a wear or two, on short hikes after you buy, before you arrive at our Guest House in the Lakes district. And, don’t forget the socks, just choose the thickness according to the season.
If you are planning some mountain hikes, bear in mind temperatures can change rapidly especially in autumn and winter months. Your first base layer should be the one that keeps moisture away from your body, yet has the ability to keep your body at a comfortable temperature. Thermal layers may not be needed in the summer months, but certainly are recommended for later in the year. After that you should certainly bring a mid-layer such as a comfortable long sleeve top or fleece. Then with your final waterproof layer, you should be ready for all weathers and some great memorable hikes.
A lightweight, sturdy backpack is ideal for holding all your essentials including a map, snacks, water, torch, and smaller items such as hat, gloves and maybe a change of clothes.
We have no doubt that preparation is the key to making your walking holiday with us an exhilarating experience at the Lakes District, and the staff at the Ouse Bridge Guest House will make sure you have a very comfortable stay and hearty breakfast to set you up for the duration of your stay.
